On the 9thMay under the high auspices of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, the round table Terminological Challenges and New Trends of Scientific Research was held in the library of the Academy. Croatia hosted the meeting of the Terminology Commission under International Committee of Slavonic Scholars for the first time. The round table was organized by the Institute of Croatian Language and Linguistics, The Scientific Council for Anthropological Research of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, and the Terminological Committee of the International Slavistic Commission. The participants were addressed by the president of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts academician Velimir Neidhardt, the president of the Croatian Committee of Slavonic Scholars Professor Bernardina Petrović, in the name of the co-organizers the president of the Scientific Council for Anthropological Research of the Croatian Academy the academician Pavao Rudan, the head of the Institute of Croatian Language and Linguistics Željko Jozić, and the president of the Terminology Commission under International Committee of Slavonic Scholars Professor Viktorija Ljudvihivna Ivaščenko.
The round table had two special thematic sessions: Terminological Challenges – State of the Art and Plansand New International Project: The Compilation of the Database of Terminological Terminology. In the first session the terminological activity in Croatia was presented: Siniša Runjaić presented the Croatian Terminological Portal (http://nazivlje.hr/), Bruno Nahod presented the database Struna (http://struna.ihjj.hr/), and Anita Sujoldžić the project Croatian Anthropological Terminology, which was a part of the Struna program.
These presentations were an impetus for the discussion on the opened questions and problems of terminology and academician Stanko Popović presented his views on another project conducted within the Struna program – Croatian Terminology of Physics. In the second session of the round table, the president of the Terminological Commission Viktorija Ljudvihivna Ivaščenko presented the plans for the new project on terminological terminology. Lana Hudeček and Milica Mihaljević presented their work on Croatian terminological terminology and Sergej Dimitrijević Šelov presented the dictionary Glossary of Terms Used in Terminology which could be a starting point for the new terminological database. In the discussion, the members of the Terminological Commission discussed the possible ways of compiling terminological terminology and the experience of different countries.
After the round table the members of the Terminological Commission held their regular meeting.
